Nel tuo esempio se passo dal 12% al 6% di spessore il guadagno % in termini di resistenza e' pari a 100-90,3 ovvero 10% circa
Per maggior chiarezza riporto il testo di Drela.

Going to thinner sections will give only very modest gains in
penetration, via the (1 + 2t/c) factor. Switching from a 6% section
to a 3% section (yikes!) will at most reduce the penetration Cd by a
factor of only
(1 + 2*0.03) / (1 + 2*0.06) = 0.95
which is surely not worth the huge structural problems of a 3% wing.
