Yes, use the thickest wire possible, or wind 2-3 in parallel because the current will increase considerably. Assuming the same voltage, rpm will go up by a factor of 3. Power will go up by factor 27 (3*3*3). Therefore, current has to go up by factor of 27 too. That's excessive. What voltage were you running this motor before and what's the new operating voltage.
