The DX6i has nothing to do with JR and previous Spektrum (de-facto JR with a Spektrum RF module) transmitters. It is a purely Spektrum transmitter - encoder included and AFAIK it does not use PPM encoding at all. All buddy boxing relies on PPM signal being transferred between the slave and master trannies.
